A Father with hundreds of children
Brothers and Sisters who have never met
A Father who is invisible
Yet, to him we are vivid:
To engage our conscious faith
And unconscious faith.
We are more than bodies
Of brain and blood:
We are spiritual.
This he understands as a fundamental,
As a fundamental we understand:
He made us and loves us—
A strange Family where
Class, race, and gender
Do not define us before God
We speak as one family, one body,
And to those who are connected
They will hear that he does so.
He should be addressed as a speaker;
And in the nature of physiology,
As blood bone flesh and organ communicate,
So God communicates—
Not in earthquakes, in fires;
But in Stillness—
Naturally, inevitably, intrinsically,
He passes on a whisper
To germinate into truth.
